Spring break is here, and if you’re a mom in Honolulu, you’re probably looking for ways to keep your little ones entertained without losing your sanity! Whether you’re up for an adventure or just want to soak in the island vibes, we’ve got you covered with fun, family-friendly activities to make the most of spring break.

🌊 Beach Days with a Twist

Sure, the beaches in Honolulu is always a go-to, but why not mix it up and take a drive out of town? Try:

🪨 Makapu'u Tidepools – Perfect wading pools for slashing around and jumping off little rocks

☀️ Haleiwa Beach Park – Calm waters make it perfect for little swimmers.

🐢 Laniakea Beach – A great spot to (respectfully) watch sea turtles!

🏖 Kailua Beach – Bring along sand toys and let the kids build epic castles.

For an extra fun touch, pack a picnic and bring along a beach ball or a scavenger hunt list!

🦑 Visit the Waikīkī Aquarium

If your kids love marine life, the Waikīkī Aquarium is a must-visit. It's small, but perfect for a quick field trip. They’ll get to see colorful reef fish, Hawaiian monk seals, and even a giant grouper fish! It’s a great way to learn about ocean conservation while staying cool indoors.

🦒 Visit the Honolulu Zoo

A trip to the Honolulu Zoo is always a hit with the kids! Located in Waikīkī, the zoo is home to over 900 animals, including lions, giraffes, and playful monkeys. There’s also a fun keiki petting zoo where little ones can get a closer look of the animals and pet some goats. Pro tip: Arrive early before it gets too hot or come later in the afternoon for less crowds.

🐐 Visit Sweet Land Farm

For a unique and hands-on experience, take the kids to Sweet Land Farm, a family-owned goat dairy farm in Waialua. Here, your little ones can meet adorable baby goats, learn about the milking process, and even sample some of their delicious, locally made goat cheese. The farm offers guided tours where kids can see firsthand how a working farm operates, making it both a fun and educational outing. Don't forget to stop by the farm store to grab some fresh cheese or goat milk caramel as a tasty souvenir!

🏛 Discover & Play at Bishop Museum’s Keiki Exhibit

For a perfect mix of fun and learning, head to Bishop Museum, where Hawaii’s rich history and culture come to life. While the whole museum is fascinating, the Keiki Exhibit is a must-visit for little ones! This interactive space is designed just for kids, with hands-on activities that encourage exploration and play.

Keiki can play, build, and engage with exhibits that teach them about Hawaii’s natural environment, cultural traditions, and even the science behind volcanoes. If your child loves to ask “why?” and “how?”—this is the place to be! Plus, don’t miss the planetarium show, where they can journey through the stars and learn about Polynesian wayfinding. Although it might be hard to do with an always-on-the-move toddler.

It’s a great way to beat the heat while keeping your kids entertained and engaged. Be sure to check the museum’s schedule for special workshops and activities during spring break!

🚶‍♀️Stroll to Stunning Views on the Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail

If you’re looking for a stroller-friendly hike with breathtaking ocean views, the Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail is a perfect choice! This paved, 2-mile round-trip trail offers a smooth surface that makes it easy to bring a stroller along, so even the littlest adventurers can enjoy the ride.

As you walk up, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of the Kaiwi Coastline, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot humpback whales during the season (December–April). The incline is gradual, making it doable for moms pushing strollers or walking with toddlers. Just be sure to bring sun protection, as there’s no shade along the way.

At the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning overlook of the historic Makapu‘u Lighthouse and the shimmering blue waters below. It’s a fun and scenic way to get some fresh air while keeping the kiddos entertained!

🛝 Go Playground Hopping

If your kids have endless energy to burn, why not take them on a playground-hopping adventure? Oahu has a few fantastic playgrounds where keiki can climb, slide, and explore to their hearts’ content. Here are a few favorites to check out:

🕸️ Ala Moana Playground – Located on the 3rd level by Target is a well loved playground suitable for confident climbers. The playground is netted and looks like a spiders web and goes up pretty high! Hopefully your kid can climb back down on their own, or else you'll have to climb up yourself and squeeze through the narrow spots!

🌉 Petrie Park (Kahala) – A neighborhood playground with a beautiful view of the ocean.

🐠 Kolowalu Park (Kaka'ako) – This is the newest playground on island. Grab some food from the shops at Ward Village and bring it to the playground! It's perfect for all ages.
