July Mama of the Month: Cassandra Gonzalez

Where are you originally from?

Waterford, Connecticut

What is your current job? Or what did you do before staying at home (if you don’t currently work outside the home)?

I was an admissions counselor at Hawaii Pacific University before deciding to stay at home with my baby while working on my masters.

What are three fun facts about you?

I played soccer for 15 years, I studied abroad in Australia during my undergrad, and I am half Polish half Salvadoran!

What is one of your proudest moments as a mom so far?

He’s still only 9 months, so I’m sure I’ll have plenty more in the future, but I love when I see him share toys and smile at other kids! It makes me feel I am raising my boy to be kind!

When did you join FIT4MOM Honolulu?

I joined in February this year!

What is your favorite class to attend?

I love stroller strides because I get to interact with my baby and make him smile!

Who is your workout buddy and their age?

My workout buddy is Westin and he is 9 months!

What is your favorite thing about FIT4MOM?

So many things I can’t choose just one! I love that it gives me a reason to get outside with my baby and set a positive example for him! I also love that it brings moms together and gives a support network to mothers throughout their journey.

What would you say to a mom that is on the fence about joining FIT4MOM?

I’d say—just give it a try! Step out of your comfort zone and take that first class (it’s free!). You’ll have the chance to meet other moms, move your body, and see if it feels like the right fit for you. Best case, you find a strong, supportive community of mothers; worst case, you still get in a great workout and quality bonding time with your baby. There’s really nothing to lose!

Share your thoughts on the concept of “it takes a village” – is it important for moms to join a village?

Absolutely. I think in today’s world, we’ve moved away from the idea of raising children as a community—and because of that, many moms are feeling more isolated than ever. That lack of support can really take a toll on maternal mental health. Rebuilding that sense of “village” is not just helpful—it’s essential.

What is your favorite beverage?

Matcha! Strawberry matcha is my ultimate fave, but the coconut cloud from Better Daze is a close second

What is your favorite thing to eat?

I recently tried the samosa banh xeo from Pig and The Lady and I think it was the best thing I ever ate!

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

Spa day!

What is your ultimate child-free vacation destination?

Cruise around Greece!
